1. Introduction

Poker Ascent ("we," "us," "our") operates the Poker Ascent mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. By using Poker Ascent, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Email address and authentication credentials when you sign up via Google, Apple, or email
  • Profile preferences: Game environment (live/online), experience level, playstyle preference, study goals, and study time, collected during onboarding
  • Referral source: How you heard about Poker Ascent (optional, collected during onboarding)
  • Support communications: Any messages you send to our support team

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Gameplay data: Every drill answer you submit, including the hand scenario, your chosen action, the correct action, time to answer, accuracy, XP earned, and session history
  • Skill progress: Per-topic accuracy, tier progression, challenge results, streak data, and level history
  • Usage analytics: Page views, feature interactions, button taps, navigation patterns, session duration, and engagement metrics
  • Session recordings: We use PostHog to record anonymized session replays of how you navigate the app. All text input fields (passwords, emails) are masked in recordings.
  • Device information: Browser type, operating system, screen size, device type, IP address, and time zone
  • Error data: Crash reports and error logs collected via Sentry to identify and fix bugs
  • Performance data: Core Web Vitals (page load times, responsiveness) collected via Vercel Analytics
  • Push notification data: If you enable notifications, we store your device push subscription endpoint

2.3 Poker Decision Data

We collect detailed data about your poker decisions, including what action you chose in each drill scenario (fold, call, raise, etc.), the poker context (your position, villain archetype, hand strength, board texture, stack depth, and street), whether your decision was correct or incorrect, your training mode (balanced, exploitative, aggressive, conservative), and patterns in your mistakes. This data is used to personalize your training, detect weaknesses, and improve our drill content. In aggregate and anonymized form, this data helps us understand how poker players at different stakes make decisions.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Personalization: Customizing drill selection, difficulty, explanations, and coaching based on your profile and performance
  • Progress tracking: Displaying your XP, streaks, accuracy, skill progression, and weakness insights
  • Product improvement: Analyzing aggregated usage patterns to improve drills, explanations, and app features
  • Research: Using anonymized, aggregated poker decision data to understand player behavior patterns across different stakes, environments, and skill levels
  • Communication: Sending push notifications (streak reminders, daily goals) if enabled; account-related emails
  • Security: Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
  • Legal compliance: Meeting legal obligations and responding to lawful requests

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

4.1 Service Providers

  • Supabase: database hosting and user authentication
  • Stripe: payment processing (we never see or store credit card numbers)
  • PostHog: product analytics, session recordings, user behavior tracking
  • Vercel: app hosting, page view analytics, performance monitoring
  • Sentry: error monitoring and crash reporting
  • Google/Apple: OAuth authentication

4.2 Aggregated Data

We may share anonymized, aggregated poker decision data with third parties for research, educational, or commercial purposes. This data cannot be used to identify individual users. Examples include average accuracy rates by skill topic, common decision patterns at different stakes, and aggregate mistake frequency by hand type and board texture.

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request.

4.4 What We Don't Do

  • We do not sell your personal information to advertisers.
  • We do not share your individual gameplay data with other users.
  • We do not collect real-money poker hand histories.
  • We do not track your activity outside of Poker Ascent.

5. Data Storage and Security

  • Data stored on Supabase with row-level security enabled
  • All data transmitted over HTTPS with TLS encryption
  • Authentication tokens in HttpOnly cookies
  • Stripe handles PCI DSS compliance
  • We use strict security headers (CSP, HSTS)
  • No method is 100% secure, we cannot guarantee absolute security

6. Data Retention

  • Active accounts: retained while your account is active
  • Deleted accounts: all personal data removed within 30 days
  • Anonymized data may be retained indefinitely
  • Database backups purged within 90 days

Data may be processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

We will notify you of material changes via in-app notice, by updating the date at the top of this page, and by email for significant changes.
