Live $1/$2 Poker Strategy

Half the table sees the flop, raises get called in three spots, and the average player calls too much and bluffs too little. That single fact reorders everything: value betting becomes the whole game, bluffing becomes a garnish, and hand-reading beats memorized frequencies.

Online opens are 2 to 2.5 big blinds; live $1/$2 opens are 5 to 8, and over limpers bigger still, because small raises invite the whole table along. The goal of a live raise is thinning the field to one or two callers, not stealing blinds nobody defends anyway.

Top pair weak kicker, an online staple, bleeds money in four-way pots; suited and connected hands that flop two pair, straights, and flushes gain. In multiway pots, bet strong hands bigger, bluff almost never (someone always has a piece), and respect raises even more than usual: a raise into four players at $1/$2 is the nuts with a name tag.

The five villain types are not evenly distributed live: $1/$2 is stations and nits with the occasional maniac, and the correct play against each is different with the same cards.
