First to act, worst position, tightest range. The classic advice says open premium hands only; the live $1/$2 reality is a notch looser because live players under-punish early opens: hands like suited connectors and small pairs can open under the gun live where online they fold.

What UTG really costs you is postflop: you act first on every street against every caller. So open hands that flop cleanly (pairs, big suited broadways) and avoid hands that flop medium (weak offsuit aces, bad kickers) because medium strength out of position bleeds money.

Facing a 3-bet, continue tight: your own strong range means their 3-bet range is stronger still.

Versus the villains: steal-raise less with stations behind you (they call anyway), and open slightly wider when nits hold the blinds.

Poker Ascent drills every seat: hundreds of hands where the correct answer is graded against your position and your opponent at the same time.
